Diamonds up.
Post Malone and Swae Lee make history as their collaboration, “Sunflower” becomes the first single in history to reach double-diamond.
On Thursday (Feb. 8), the RIAA announced the song reached 20 million sales, 20x platinum with over 20 million streams or downloads. The 2018 song peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard charts just over two months after its debut. “Sunflower” marked Post Malone’s third chart-topping hit and Swae Lee’s first.
“Sunflower” was the lead single off the soundtrack to the 2018 Marvel comic animated film, Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse. In 2022, the song exceeded Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus’ “Old Town Road” as the highest certified single in RIAA history.
“Post Malone and Swae Lee have officially raised the bar on what creative partnerships and infectious collaborations have the power to accomplish,” said RIAA Chairman and CEO Mitch Glazier in a statement. “Congratulations Post, Swae Lee and Mercury/Republic Records for making history with the very first 2x diamond single!”
Post Malone is set to perform “America The Beautiful” at this weekend’s Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday (Feb. 11) at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.
