G. Dep Released From Prison

After nearly serving 13 years, rapper G. Dep was released from prison.

On Thursday (Apr. 4), the 49-year-old Harlem-native, born Trevell Coleman walked out of  Fishkill Correctional Facility as a free man, reports AllHipHop. He was greeted with family and friends who joined him for a prayer circle before enjoying his first post-prison meal at a local IHOP.

Last year, he was among the 16 individuals who were granted clemency by New York Governor Kathy Hochul, which made him eligible for parole.

In 2010, the former Bad Boy rapper walked into New York’s 25th Precinct confessed to a cold case crime involving a murder of a Queens man in 1993. Coleman stated that he ambushed the victim and shot him during a robbery attempt.

The “Special Delivery” hitmaker was convicted in April of 2012 and was then sentenced to 15 years the following month for second-degree murder. He was temporary released for an hour in 2015 to attend the funeral of his father.
