Popcaan and Post Malone may have a collaboration in the pipeline, according to the White Iverson rapper’s manager Dre London.
London, who is of Jamaican heritage and currently promoting his tequila brand Don Londre’s, told the Jamaica Observer that the Unruly Boss and Malone have already met, and there are high hopes for even more Jamaican collaborations.
“Me and Popcaan have already discussed songs with him and Post. Post loves Popcaan, they’ve actually already met at one of Post’s shows in the UK,” the music manager said.
“I also have this dream of a collaboration with Post and Damian Marley,” he continued.
Popcaan has been a hot commodity for international collaborations since his rise in Dancehall some 12 years ago. The Family deejay currently boasts a music catalog with the likes of Drake, Maroon 5, Burna Boy, Davido, Snoop Dog, Jorja Smith, Giggs, and Jamie XX and Young Thug – with whom he just earned his first platinum certification for I Know There’s Gonna Be (Good Times) in Canada.
Additionally, Popcaan has earned a few UK chart entries for Kisses For Breakfast with Melissa Steel, I’m in Control with AlunaGeorge, Naughty Boy’s Should’ve Been Me featuring Kyla and Saturnz Barz alongside The Gorillaz.
Malone’s debut album Stoney (2016) reached No. 4 on the Billboard 200 and featured the multi-platinum singles White Iverson, Congratulations with Quavo, Go Flex, Too Young, and I Fall Apart.
His follow up album, Beerbongs & Bentleys (2018) became his first No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and featured the Billboard Hot 100 chart toppers, Rockstar and Psycho with 21 Savage and Ty Dolla Sign, as well as Better Now, which reached No. 3.
Malone’s third album, Hollywood’s Bleeding (2019) also peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and featured the Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 singles Circles and Sunflower.
His last album Twelve Carat Toothache (2022) peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and featured songs such as One Right Now, I Like You (A Happier Song) with Doja Cat and Cooped Up with Roddy Ricch.
Popcaan, whose real name is Andrae Sutherland, rose to prominence in the early 2010s with his mentor Vybz Kartel on Clarks with Gaza Slim. His other early hits include Only Man She Want, Party Shot, and Dream.
After signing to Mixpak Records, he released his first album Where We Come From in 2014. Mixpak founder Andrew “Dre Skull” Hershey executive produced the album, which peaked at No. 2 on Billboard’s Reggae Albums chart with hits such as Everything Nice and the title track Where We Come From.
In 2018, Popcaan’s sophomore album Forever followed under Mixpak with production again being primarily handled by Dre Skull. Forever, which included Firm and Story, Silence and A Wha Suh, entered the Billboard 200 chart at No. 171 and peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart.
Popcaan then signed to Drake’s OVO Sound in late 2018, and one year later, he released his third album Vanquish on the Canadian label. The album debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Reggae Albums Chart, just as its predecessors did, with tracks like Numbers Don’t Lie, Promise, and Happy and Wealthy.
FIXTAPE, which dropped in August 2020 under OVO Sound, debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart. It also cracked the Billboard 200 chart with a significant showing at No. 94. It featured Twist & Turn with Drake & PARTYNEXTDOOR, All I Need with Drake, Murda with Preme and French Montana, and Suh Me Luv It with Jada Kingdom.
The deejay has also released two EPs; the first was Link Up – a joint effort with labelmate Preme that was released in November 2020. In February 2021, his Gyalentine’s EP was released with four tracks.
Popcaan’s forthcoming fifth studio album, titled Great is he, currently has no release date.
