Queen of Dancehall Spice has notched her fourth entry on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart with her new album, Emancipated, which was released independently via Stealth Music/Spice Official ENT on August 26.
The album opens at No. 7 on the chart dated September 10, with the equivalent of 1500 total units sold in the US during its first week of release.
This includes 700 copies from pure album sales, and 1,100,000 from audio and video streams in the US, according to data provided to DancehallMag from Billboard’s sales tracker Luminate.
Emancipated had a slightly stronger opening week than Spice’s Grammy-nominated debut 10, which had spent one week on the chart at No. 6 last year.
10, released via VP Records, had sold 1,447 total units of consumption from sales and streaming in the US during its first week of release, according to Luminate.
The singer’s Captured Mixtape (2018) had peaked at No. 1 on the Reggae Albums chart, while her So Mi Like EP (2014) peaked at No. 14.
The weekly sales and streaming-driven Billboard Reggae Albums chart ranks the most popular Reggae albums in the US, based on consumption metrics that are measured in equivalent album units. Each of those units represents one album sale or 10 individual tracks sold from an album or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscriptions streams from an album via audio or video streams.
Reggae legends Bob Marley & The Wailers are No. 1 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart this week for the 139th consecutive week, with Legend— a greatest hits collection first released in May 1984 by Island Records.
Shaggy’s Best of Shaggy: The Boombastic Collection is at No. 2, followed by Sean Paul’s Dutty Classics Collection at No. 3.
UB40’s Greatest Hits compilation is at No. 4, followed by Stick Figure’s World On Fire and Set In Stone albums at No. 5 and 6, respectively.
Musical Youth’s Anthology album spends its fourth week on the chart at No. 8, following the death of a former member.
Koffee’s Gifted album spends its 22nd week on the chart at No. 9, while Burna Boy’s Outside album completes the Top 10.
