The Rap is back.
Rapsody has just announced her long-awaited album, Please Don’t Cry and unleashes its second single, “Stand Tall” along with its music video.
On a set for an interview with close friend and actress Sanaa Lathan, the North Carolina MC showcases her lyrical prowess where she addresses raw emotions surrounding authenticity, rumors, and honor.
“You gon’ shine or fade to black as a result of all your damages / I learned life like bike rides, we gotta handle it,” she raps. “Visits with my Auntie, my uncle ashes on the mantelpiece / Her tears never stop, it’s like the cycles on a rinse repeat.
Elsewhere, Rap adds, “I’m cut from that cloth, so every day’s a mental cleaning spree / Navigating through this business, tryna find some decency / But you only wonder if I eat coochie or like some dick in me / Y’all need to read Dick Gregory/ Bitches.”
“Stand Tall” is the follow-up to last year’s “Asteroids” featuring Hit-Boy. Please Don’t Cry will be Rapsody’s fourth studio album following 2019’s Eve. The album drops May 17 and will include appearances by Erykah Badu, Lil Wayne, Phylicia Rashad, Baby Tate, Alex Isley, and more.
