Tory Lanez was ordered to serve 10 years in prison after being found guilty of shooting fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion in 2020.
On Tuesday (Aug. 8), a federal Los Angeles judge gave the 10 year sentence to Tory, born Daystar Peterson. The 31-year-old Toronto, who has claimed in innocent throughout the nearly three-year high profile case, was found guilty last December for assault with a semi-automatic firearm, carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.
Tory, who initially was facing up to 22 years and possible deportation, addressed the court shorty before his sentencing. ““If I could change it, I would, but I can’t,” he said. “Everything I did that night, I take full responsibility. I truly am just trying to be a better person.”
A judge previously denied the request for a retrial. His defense team plans to appeal both the conviction and sentencing, and file for bail when the sentence appeals.
Megan, 28, who was not present during the sentenced issued the following statement. “For once, the defendant must be forced to face the full consequences of his heinous actions and face justice.”
Back in October 2020, Tory was charged for felony assault after shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the foot following a verbal dispute in Hollywood Hills on July 12.
